What is Cocaine Bear?
Cocaine Bear is an upcoming American comedy horror survival film directed and co-produced by Elizabeth Banks from a screenplay by Jimmy Warden.
The premise of the film sounds like something out of a Pablo Escobar movie.
After ingesting a duffel bag full of cocaine, an American black bear goes on a murderous rampage in an small Kentucky town.
A group of locals and tourists must then join forces in order to survive the attack.
The cast includes Jesse Tyler Ferguson from Modern Family, and Matthew Rhys from Brothers & Sisters.
The film also stars the late Ray Liotta in one of his final performances before he sadly passed away.
Is Cocaine Bear based on a true story?
Announced in April 2022, Cocaine Bear raised eyebrows due to its incredible premise that is, in fact, inspired by real-life events.
The film is loosely based on the true story of a 175-pound American black bear that died after ingesting a duffel bag full of cocaine in December 1985.
The cocaine had been dropped out of an airplane piloted by Andrew C. Thornton II, a former narcotics officer and convicted drug smuggler, because his plane was carrying too heavy a load.
Thornton then jumped off the plane with a faulty parachute and died.
The bear was found three months later in the north of the state of Georgia alongside 40 opened plastic containers of cocaine.
The bear is currently on display at the Kentucky Fun Mall in Lexington, Kentucky.
When is the Cocaine Bear release date?
Cocaine Bear will be released in cinemas on February 23, 2023.
The running time for the movie is yet to be released, or the age certificate of the film.
